quick sculpting and texturing study

i recently rediscovered my tablet and wanted to see if i could hook it up to blender for sculpting. this was (thankfully) successful; up until now, i’ve been doing everything with just a mouse. this study took about 3-4 hours, including some quick texturing in substance painter.

this final render includes a retopo’d model that has roughly 350 faces. i could theoretically reduce this further, but i found that a lower poly model wasn’t tricking the eye as well.

i used information from the original 250,000 face sculpt to create a normal map that could be used to “fake” the smaller details on the low-poly version, such as the bumpy texture and larger cracks.

the uv map could be optimized further; i just wanted this to be a quick sculpting study 🙂

in substance painter, i experimented with some generators to create a mossy effect. i could easily add some more edge wear and less procedural looks to it, but texturing wasn’t my biggest concern here.
